Be Thou My Vision

Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart
Naught be all else to me, save that thou art;
Thou my best thought, by day or by night
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my wisdom, and Thou my true word
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son
Thou with me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise
Thou mine inheritance, now and always;
Thou and Thou only, First in my heart
Hig King of Heaven, My treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach heaven's joys, O bright heaven's sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

An Irish hymn of the 8th century translated by Mary E. Byrne.

Loooove this hymn!! Great post! Ironically I posted a Christian song on my devotional post that I thought you might like.

First solo I ever sang in Church was that song. Should have been my last. But I love that song.

I love old Irish music! That's so pretty - wish I could hear the tune.

Rebekah, I have the song on CD. If you want I can e-mail it to you so you can listen to it. It really has a beautiful tune, too.

And while we're at it, May I recommend "The Love Of God", also?

The last verse is Powerful. It says:

"Could we with ink the ocean fill
And were the sky of parchment made
And every blade on earth a quill
And every man a scribe by trade.
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry
Nor could the scroll contain the whole
Tho' stretched from sky to sky.

O love of God
How rich and free
How measureless and strong
It will forevermore endure
The saints and angels song."

That would be great, if you don't mind. Thanks! My email is at my blog.
