Old Photos

I have been going through some old photos. I need to do that once in a while to remember how blessed I have been throughout my life. This photo is of my oldest sister. I didn't just want to be like her, I wanted to be her. She was always nice to me even though I was almost 10 years younger than her. This particular shot is one of my very favorites. It was taken after we returned home from a beauty pageant. She didn’t win. That was great tragedy in my opinion. After all, she was the most beautiful girl there. She would be 48 today. I always thought she would live forever. She didn’t. She died almost 10 years ago. I still miss her and our late night phone calls.

It's funny how we can more or less come to terms with things, but once in a while they still knock the wind out of us.

*Hugs* as you miss your sister...

She is very beautiful, jgf. I know you cherish your memories of her.

I lost my mother to cancer when I was seven. Sometimes, as clew says, it can still knock the wind out of me.

Blessings.

Good, you got the pic up. Your sister was just gorgeous. I console myself that only the good die young. I've actually seen that - all the people I knew who died young were very humble and kind.

Ditto what everyone has said here. Hugs as you miss your sister.

My theory about the good dying young - maybe they don't need to learn any more on this earth and are ready for heaven.

Thanks, everyone.

Grief is a strange thing. Sometimes it is like a sucker punch when others just fly by. I think this year was harder since I am the age she was when she died.

So sorry.

I have a younger brother that seems to idolize me even today. While I'm flattered beyond words, I want to say to him, you are an awesome person. You don't need to idolize someone else. Unfortunately it's not a topic that is discussed, and I'm too much of a coward to say it.

Jon, say it anyway. Never wait until it is too late to say something so important.

The lives we remember are the ones worth the most.

I suspect it's difficult this year for the precise reason you listed: you are now the same age as your sister when she passed away. The Good do, in fact, die too young.
